Airtel Africa Appoints New Regional Director for East Africa

Published on September 4, 2019, Airtel Africa Limited has appointed Mr Ian Ferrao as the Regional Director of its East Africa business, a newly created position.

Mr Ferrao brings over 12 years of experience in senior management of telecommunications firms across Africa, having served in various roles including CEO of Vodacom Tanzania PLC, CEO of Vodacom Lesotho, and Chief Commercial Officer at Vodacom Business Africa.

He holds a First Class Honours Degree in BSc Management Sciences from the Warwick Business School and will be based in Nairobi as part of the Africa Executive Committee.

Airtel Africa CEO Raghunath Mandava said Mr Ferrao will be responsible for driving growth across voice, data, and mobile money services in East Africa, covering Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, and Rwanda.

Mr Mandava described Mr Ferrao as 'an asset to the business' due to his wealth of relevant telecommunications and mobile money experience within the region.

Airtel Africa is a leading provider of telecommunications and mobile money services, with a presence in 14 countries in Africa, primarily in East Africa and Central and West Africa.
