On Monday, McDonald Mariga, a former Harambee Stars international, was unveiled as the Jubilee Party candidate for the Kibra by-election. The announcement was made at the party's headquarters, where Mariga had undergone vetting by the National Elections Board.
According to National Elections Board chairman Andrew Musangi, Mariga was chosen for his 'impeccable character and credentials' and his 'enduring connections with the people of Kibra'. The board tested Mariga's knowledge of party policies, ability to finance campaigns, understanding of parliamentary work, and vision for Kibra.
The vetting process also assessed Mariga's alignment with the party's manifesto and ability to deliver its mandate. A total of 16 people had expressed interest in the Jubilee ticket.
Mariga scored 500 marks out of 1000, emerging as the winner. Hussein Ramadhan Abdi came in second with 371 marks, while Peter Morris Kinyanjui was third with 367 marks.
Board members gave Mariga the following scores: Andrew Musangi (80 marks), Aden Noor Ali (92 marks), Leah Ntimama (88 marks), Samuel Kobia (72 marks), Michael Waweru (75 marks), and Carolyne Kamende (93 marks).
