On Tuesday, four gang members led police officers to a junkyard in Kariobangi South, where they were stripping stolen cars for onward sale as spare parts.

The suspects were arrested last Saturday on suspicion of being part of a car theft syndicate operating in Nairobi, with areas of Kasarani, Roysambu, and Thika being their primary targets.

According to Kasarani OCPD Peter Kimani, the suspects have been operating in these areas for some time, with three of them - Stephen Njoroge Njihia, Gladys Wanjiku, and Francis Kinyanjui - being arrested in Kasarani, while the fourth suspect was arrested later in an unclear location.

As reported by Kasarani OCPD Peter Kimani, "It is not the first time for the four gang members to be arrested, they are wanted in Thika, Kamukunji, Kilimani, and Kajiado. They were given bail and ran away," he said.

Police have since warned spare parts shop owners to refrain from promoting car theft, and have listed Roysambu, Garden Estate, and Kahawa West as areas of operation for the syndicate.

With the suspects set to remain in police custody for 14 days, police are spreading their search for similar spare parts yards in Dandora and its environs.
