Sportpesa Cleared to Resume Operations in Kenya ¶
On September 3, 2019, the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) cleared Sportpesa to resume its operations, allowing the company to restart its sports betting business in the country.
According to a statement from Sportpesa, the company is pleased to have been cleared by the KRA to resume its operations. The statement reads: “We are pleased to have been cleared by the Kenya Revenue Authority to have our license reinstated. We believe that these negotiations will be concluded soon, and we will be able to continue with our previous activities.”
However, the clearance comes after a two-month suspension of Sportpesa's operations, during which the company was forced to cease its activities in Kenya. The suspension was a result of the company's failure to comply with the government's regulations, which led to the freezing of its bank accounts and the shutdown of its operations.
Despite the challenges, Sportpesa has managed to stay afloat and has been working to resolve the issues with the government. The company has also been in talks with the Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB) to have its license reinstated.
Other sports betting companies in Kenya, including Betika, Betway, OdiBets, Mozzartbet, Ken Bookmakers, Lucky 2u, Eazi Bet, Kick off, Eastleighbet, Palms Bet, and Bet boss, have also been cleared to resume their operations.
With the clearance from the KRA, Sportpesa is expected to resume its operations and continue to provide its services to its customers in Kenya.
