On May 4, 2019, 21-year-old Alex Oyombe Gradin, a Kenyan student at Lane Community College, was shot and killed in a parking lot near the University of Oregon.

Four months after the tragic event, a Portland couple, Regis Derey Kindred, 30, and Kailee Von Foster, 29, have been charged with Gradin's murder.

According to police, the motive behind the shooting was gang-related, but Gradin had no affiliation with any gang activity.

EPD Detective Jed McGuire stated, 'He did absolutely nothing wrong.'

The suspects, both with prior criminal convictions, were arrested last week and arraigned in court on Tuesday.

EPD Police Chief Chris Skinner acknowledged the frustration in not being able to share details with the public, but emphasized that multiple investigators spent hundreds of hours on the case, receiving assistance from agencies including the FBI and Lane County Sheriff's Department.
