Published on September 4, 2019, West Pokot Governor John Lonyangapuo and his critic Dennis Ruto Kapchok, popularly known as 'Mulmulwas', have put their differences aside.

The reconciliation comes after a peace deal was brokered by local leaders, including former Kacheliba MP Peter Nang'ole, nominated Ward Representative Josephine Cheprum, and retired chief Zacharia Loripo.

Mr Kapchok, who had been a vocal critic of the governor, said he made the decision to tone down his criticism after being persuaded by his father William Lopetakou, elders, and kin.

"Because the governor and the devolved government I have been fighting are now on the right track," Mr Kapchok said, explaining his decision to reconcile with the governor.

Mr Kapchok's criticism of the governor had gained him popularity, with local musicians even composing songs in his praise.

However, Mr Kapchok said he was ready to work with the governor to make West Pokot a county focused on development and fairness, providing equal opportunities to all residents.

He also called on the Senate to summon Deputy Governor Nicholas Atundonyang, who has been out of the country for two years, saying he had gone back on his contract with voters.
