Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko presented himself at the Integrity Centre, the headquarters of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), on Tuesday morning, September 4, 2019, to answer questions over alleged corruption in garbage collection tenders.
More than five hours after his arrival, Governor Sonko was still being questioned by investigators.
Unlike his usual entourage, the governor was accompanied by a small security detail during his low-key entry into the anti-graft offices.
He was summoned by the EACC over claims of corruption in the award of garbage collection tenders for the 2017/18 and 2018/19 financial years.
The EACC is investigating allegations of corruption in the award of the tenders, which totalled over Sh160 million paid to contracted garbage collectors.
