Published on September 4, 2019, Dr. Miguna Miguna sparked controversy with Chief Justice David Maraga over the lawmakers' dress code.
Dr. Miguna Miguna argued that the Chief Justice's insistence on maintaining the outdated dress code, including the colonial wig, is an embarrassment to Kenya.
He claimed that the wig, which has been abolished in many countries, is a relic of the colonial era and should be discarded.
Dr. Miguna Miguna also criticized National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi for wearing the wig during parliamentary sessions.
He urged the Chief Justice to 'throw away the dirty colonial wigs and pump in fresh energy in the heads of advocates, judges, and speakers.'
Dr. Miguna Miguna linked the wearing of the wig to the normalization of systemic corruption, citing the example of former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga, who was asked about his opinion on the wig.
