On September 3, 2019, the Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI) requested documents from Kenya Airways in connection with an investigation into the airline's operational missteps.

Abdalla Komesha, of the Banking Fraud Investigation Unit, wrote to the airline's CEO, Sebastian Mikosz, seeking procurement guidelines since 2015, as well as the procurement plan for the last two years.

The investigator also requested the airline's budget plan, tender advertisements, and other details related to the tendering process.

Kenya Airways has welcomed the inquiry and pledged to provide the necessary support and information, stating, '…we are engaging with the team to provide the necessary support and information.'
