Published on September 4, 2019, Kenya Airways has withdrawn its Privately Initiated Investment Proposal (PIIP) from the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) consideration.
The proposal, submitted in October 2018, had recommended the nationalization of the airline and the establishment of a holding company with four subsidiaries, including KAA, Kenya Airways, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, and a centralized aviation college.
During its quarterly board meeting on August 27, 2019, Kenya Airways' board of directors decided to withdraw the PIIP, despite the proposal's earlier adoption by the parliament and the Transport committee's request for exemption of excise duty on jet fuel.
Kenya Airways' CEO, Sebastian Mikosz, stated, “KQ’s Board and Management believe that the PIIP has catalyzed important discourse about the future of Kenya’s civil aviation, which is now being led by the Government of Kenya. Kenya Airways looks forward to continued collaboration with all involved stakeholders of the process.”
