September 3, 2019, marked the beginning of a heated exchange between human rights activist Boniface Mwangi and Raila Junior over the Kibra Constituency by-election.
At the center of the controversy is Editar Ochieng, Mwangi's candidate running on Ukweli Party's ticket, which is associated with the activist.
Raila Junior expressed skepticism about Ochieng's chances, stating, 'I honestly feel there will be more spoilt votes than votes for her @bonifacemwangi if @SportPesa were still on I’d make that bet. Why would someone waste their time and money like this?'
Responding to Junior's comments, Mwangi fired back, pointing out that Raila Odinga, Junior's father, has been running for presidency since 1997 without success.
'Your father @RailaOdinga has been running for President since 1997. 22 year later he is still running but has never been sworn as president. @Railajunior let @oeditar run for MP Kibra in peace. Bet on your dad becoming president in 2022 and let Editar Ochieng be.'
Junior's comments were met with criticism from Mwangi, who reminded him of a 2018 incident where Junior had accused Talisman restaurant of racism.
The Kibra parliamentary seat has attracted several candidates, including Eliud Owalo from ANC, Khamisi Butichi from Ford Kenya, and McDonald Mariga from Jubilee.
