Published on September 4, 2019, a court in Milimani has ordered the detention of Wendy Waeni's former manager, Joe Mwangi, for five days pending investigations into alleged forgery and threats against the contortionist's mother.
Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi made the ruling after detectives requested to have Mwangi held for seven days, citing him as a flight risk who might interfere with investigations.
According to the court, Mwangi forged a letter purporting it to be from Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i and sent it via email to Magdalene Mbele Syombua, Waeni's mother, to intimidate her.
After Mwangi was informed that the matter had been reported to the police, he began to threaten the complainant, forcing detectives to appeal to the public for information on his whereabouts.
It is alleged that Mwangi switched off all his known mobile phone lines after committing the offence, making his arrest difficult.
Prosecution said Mwangi was a flight risk because they had information that he intended to travel to London to evade prosecution.
