On August 27, 2019, a security breach occurred at Shauri Yako Primary School in Homa-Bay town constituency, resulting in the theft of digital learning gadgets.

The accused, Jared Otieno Wanyumba, a 30-year-old security guard, was charged with failing to prevent the theft, despite being on duty that night.

Wanyumba pleaded not guilty to the charges before Principal Magistrate Ruth Maloba.

He was remanded at Homa-Bay G.K Prison after failing to raise a bond of Ksh.50,000 and one surety of similar amount.

The case will be mentioned on September 16, 2019.
