On September 3, 2019, Deputy President William Ruto emphasized the need to expand existing schools in Kenya, rather than establishing new ones, to achieve the government's goal of universal education.
Speaking at Moi Girls High School in Kibra, Nairobi, after opening a new 580-bed dormitory, Ruto noted that the government recognizes the crucial role education plays in the country's development and the transformation of citizens' lives.
He suggested that equipping existing schools would cater to the increasing number of school-going children, citing the government's desire to ensure 100% transition from primary to secondary education.
According to Ruto, education is the equalizer of all in society, and the government will continue to prioritize education. He highlighted that education empowers young people to be agents of change, shaping the country's future.
The Deputy President also attributed the significant increase in remittances from Kenyans working abroad, exceeding 300 billion shillings, to the impact of education.
