As a medical professional, I have witnessed the devastating impact of terminal illnesses on patients and their loved ones. The reality of impending death can be overwhelming, but it is essential to face it with compassion and respect.

When a patient's condition is terminal, it is crucial to prioritize their dignity and well-being. This involves providing them with specialized care, including palliative treatment, to alleviate their suffering and ensure a peaceful passing.

It is not heartless to withhold unnecessary treatments that only prolong the patient's suffering. In fact, it is a compassionate decision that respects their autonomy and dignity.

However, euthanasia or assisted suicide are not solutions, as they can lead to a loss of dignity and create a power imbalance between the patient and medical team.

Instead, we should focus on providing proportionate and ordinary means of care, such as nutrition, oxygen, and medication, to ensure the patient's comfort and well-being.

Ultimately, it is essential to respect the patient's autonomy and dignity, even in the face of inevitable death.
