On September 3, 2019, a funeral service for Njanjo Wahome, a veteran political operative, turned into a dramatic scene at Gichira stadium in Tetu subcounty, Nyeri. The drama ensued when fire-spitting Nyeri politician Thuo Mathenge threw electrifying jabs at Governor Mutahi Kahiga.

According to Mathenge, Governor Kahiga's administration had recorded poor performance in service delivery due to general laziness by senior officers, graft, and other vices like nepotism. Mathenge's remarks were met with wild cheers from the huge crowd of mourners, who shouted 'tooba! tooba!' (Reveal it all).

As Mathenge left the podium, a church cleric who was the main celebrant of the funeral service asked other speakers to come forward and eulogized the fallen political wheeler-dealer-cum-businessman. The agitated governor, Governor Kahiga, left the ceremony in a huff.

Other mourners included pro-William Ruto MPs Jane Kihara (Naivasha), Gichuhi Mwangi (Tetu), and Nyeri county women representative Rahab Mukami, who drummed up support for Ruto's 2022 presidential bid.
