On a typical wedding day, the ceremony is followed by a photo shoot, and then guests gather at the reception for a sumptuous meal and celebration.

However, one couple recently turned this tradition on its head by sending out invitations for a 'receptionless' wedding ceremony.

Adewale Yussuf and Blessing Ijeoma, a Nigerian couple, shocked the online community with their unconventional decision.

According to Adewale, the couple had decided to keep things simple and not have a reception party after their wedding.

But their family and friends had other plans.

Despite their initial decision, the couple was surprised with a reception courtesy of their friends and family.

Adewale shared photos from the surprise reception on their Instagram page, thanking their mentors and friends for the gesture.

He also expressed gratitude to those who defended their decision, saying they were happy with their choice.

‘So the weekend was full of drama as our wedding IV trended because of our #NoReception decision. I’m glad my wife is laughing about it now, because it wasn’t funny over the weekend. Thanks to everyone that insulted or defended us, we’re happy with our decision,’ he wrote.
