On September 3, 2019, the Director of Public Prosecutions, Noordin Haji, ordered the Inspector-General of Police, Hillary Mutyambai, to launch investigations into the Child Welfare Society of Kenya following a damning expose by the Sunday Standard.
The allegations of child neglect and misappropriation of public funds were revealed in a investigative piece that highlighted the poor living conditions and exploitation of adopted children at the state corporation based along Lang'ata Road.
Former presidential candidate Martha Karua had earlier called on the Kenya National Human Rights Commission to act on the expose, tagging the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in her tweet.
“... What are you doing about the expose by last Sunday Standard on grave abuse of children by the Child Welfare Society of Kenya @DCI_Kenya @ODPP_KE,” tweeted Martha Karua.
