Kenya Airways is facing a probe by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) over concerns involving tenders and procurement.
On September 2, 2019, the DCI ordered the airline's boss, Sebastian Mikosz, to surrender certified copies of the airline's financial documents, including procurement guidelines since 2015.
The investigation will focus on the procurement of services for the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of aircraft engines, as well as other documents such as procurement and budget plans, tender advertisements, and lists of prequalified suppliers.
The DCI is probing the financial period between 2017/2018 and 2018/2019, and has requested information about members of the Procurement and Tender Committee for the same period.
During the announcement of the 2019 half-year results, Kenya Airways reported that operating costs rose to Ksh. 61.45 billion, up from Ksh. 53.22 billion in the previous year.
