On September 3, 2019, Saumu Mbuvi, daughter of Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, shared a heartfelt tribute to her late mother on social media.

According to Saumu, her mother passed away when she was just 14 years old, in Class 8, waiting to sit for her KCPE examination.

She also expressed her gratitude to her father, Mike Sonko, and her stepmother, Primerose Mbuvi, for their love and support during a difficult time.

As she celebrated her late mother's life, Saumu shared a poignant message, saying, 'LOSING A MOTHER IS ONE OF THE DEEPEST SORROWS A HEART CAN KNOW. IT IS AN EVERLASTING SADNESS, THAT YOU ARE NO LONGER HERE. BUT EVERY YEAR I LIKE TO THINK YOU ARE NEAR US.'
