Kirinyaga Woman Rep Ngirici Faces Backlash for Road Rage Incident ¶
On September 2, 2019, a video emerged of Kirinyaga Woman Rep Wangui Ngirici involved in a road rage incident in Nairobi. The video, which has gone viral, shows Ngirici allegedly breaking traffic rules and assaulting a motorist.
According to eyewitness Oluoch Dickens, who was in a taxi at the time of the incident, Ngirici's car almost hit another vehicle head-on before she got out and started insulting the driver. Dickens, who had just undergone an operation and was in a lot of pain, confronted Ngirici and her team, who tried to intimidate him.
Ngirici has since taken to Twitter to address the incident, stating that she had been rushing to attend to a patient at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) and had apologized to the motorist involved. However, many have criticized her for her behavior and for not following traffic rules.
Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai had issued a directive in May 2019 warning leaders against breaking traffic rules, stating that motorists should only give way to vehicles belonging to the President, Deputy President, First Lady, Cabinet Secretaries for Defence, Interior and Foreign Affairs, and their Principal Secretaries, as well as ambulances and fire brigade.
Ngirici's incident has sparked a heated debate on social media, with many calling for her to be held accountable for her actions.
