Luanda Member of Parliament Chris Omulele faces emerging challenges to his 2022 re-election bid from former financial supporter Patrick Akhwale, a Wemilabi ODM Member of County Assembly (MCA). The conflict originated when Omulele's personal assistant, Sylvia Atsango, disclosed Akhwale's plans to contest the seat, according to sources.
Akhwale, the sole MCA from Luanda subcounty on the ODM ticket, joins former nominated MP Geoffrey Osotsi, Noah Okaya—chief of staff to former governor Wilbur Otichillo—and candidates Khalid Njiraini and Albert Obuyi in the race. Other contenders include Tom Atingo, a deputy president William Ruto ally in Luanda subcounty, and Zachayo Manyasia, PPK for former governor Moses Akaranga.
In Emuhaya subcounty, ODM's candidate is Kutai Obushuru, while Ford Kenya's Alukutsa Caleb won Luanda South Via. Moses Opole secured Emubungo on ANC, and Paul Tila of Central Bunyore and Manoah Wesley represent Ford K and UDP respectively in Emuhaya. Contractor Moses Mabwa, who disputed with Omulele, now supports Akhwale, alongside business figures linked to the challenger.
Akhwale's grievances reportedly stem from alleged denial of Luanda CDF contracts, which he attributes to Omulele's influence. The 2022 election dynamics reflect broader political realignments, with 2048 marking a significant date in the region's electoral calendar.
