On February 9th, 2019, Kenya's top seed Allan Oyende was in action during the Kisumu National Scrabble Championship, alongside Milly Kikechi.
Fast forward to the 2019 Nairobi Scrabble League, where Oyende proved his dominance, emerging as the champion after a thrilling tournament at Stima Club in Ruaraka.
With an impressive 51 wins out of 78 matches, Oyende secured a cumulative winning spread of 4,057 points, cementing his position as the league's top performer.
Coming in second was Tobias Outi, who clocked 47 wins and a draw, with a cumulative winning spread of 1,697 points.
Nicholas Mbugua, fresh from his win at the Bondo Scrabble Circuit, took the third spot with 47 wins and 1,692 points.
"It was a tough and marathon tournament that was not easy to win and am glad everything turned out my way," Oyende said after the win.
Meanwhile, in the intermediate division, David Kimani won gold with 55 wins and 6,477 points, while Duke Michieka and Ayub Zande took the second and third spots respectively.
Richard Okechi from the University of Nairobi emerged tops in the upcoming division with 22 wins and 2,521 points.
Scrabble Kenya chairman Benard Amuke won bronze in the handicap division, while David Njenga and Tobias Outi registered the highest combined score in the league.
With the Busia national circuit set to take place this coming weekend, the stage is set for another thrilling round of Scrabble action.
