On September 1, 2019, a promising young footballer's life was cut short in Kisumu, Kenya.

Moses Ayoo Awuoth, a 16-year-old Form Two student at Kisumu Boys High School, died after collapsing during a local football tournament hosted at Ragumo Primary School.

Awuoth, who had been an active player with Rae Green Stars FC through his teenage years, had a convulsion after their game with Renja Football Club on Sunday evening.

According to Rae Green Stars FC's coach, Hesbon Otieno, the young boy fell during the play-off and efforts to resuscitate him failed.

"The young boy fell during the play-off and we administered the usual first aid. When efforts to resuscitate him failed, I then decided to rush him to hospital," Coach Otieno said.

Despite being rushed to Wema Hospital in Nyamasaria, Awuoth was pronounced dead on arrival.

The deceased has been an active player at Rae FC where he has grown through the ranks, and his body has since been transferred to Kisumu County Hospital.
