On September 2, 2019, Citizen TV aired an exposé on the Mara Heist, revealing a massive scandal involving the looting of public funds from Maasai Mara University.

According to the investigation, top officials at the university could face arrests if the move by the DCI is anything to go by.

DCI detectives were seen holed up at the university on Monday, just hours after the exposé, collecting sensitive evidence.

They spent hours combing through the institution, interrogating the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mary Walingo, and other university staff for over five hours.

Prof. Walingo's driver, Abdi Noor Hassan, was also spotted in the compound.

The Mara Heist exposé unearthed looting of public funds totaling Ksh. 190 million.

Three whistle-blowers have applied for witness protection from the State after they were threatened for unearthing the scandal.
