On the first day of the third term, a fire broke out at Chemitan Academy in Bureti Constituency, destroying a boys' dormitory and property worth Sh500,000.
According to Bureti Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD) Felicia Nafula, the pupils were in their classrooms for evening preps when the dormitory caught fire at around 8 pm on Monday.
Nafula stated that it took the intervention of members of the public to put out the fire before the county fire engine arrived at the scene.
Investigations have been launched to determine the cause of the fire, and the scene has been cordoned off awaiting further investigation.
