On September 2, 2019, detectives arrested Zachary Mwangi Kariuki, a suspected serial con man, who had been evading court for five months.
Mr. Mwangi appeared before Kibera Senior Resident Magistrate Faith Mutuku, who had issued a warrant of arrest against him.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), several members of the public had complained that Mr. Mwangi had obtained money from them by false pretences.
Mr. Mwangi was accused of obtaining Sh1.9 million from Mr. Pankaj Patel, the director of Kenson and Company Limited, under the pretext that he would sell him a car in 2012.
When questioned by the court, Mr. Mwangi claimed to have been sick and admitted to a Limuru hospital since April.
However, the court was not convinced by his explanation, and he was remanded until September 18, 2019, when the case will be mentioned.
