On September 3, 2019, activist Boniface Mwangi took to Twitter to caution Kibra residents to choose their leader on merit in the upcoming Kibra by-elections.

He told the Kibra people to learn from the people of Starehe and Langata Constituencies, who elected 'socialites' as their leaders, only to suffer the consequences of their choice.

Activist Mwangi further took on McDonald Mariga, claiming he has not contributed positively to society, especially to the youths.

He alleged that Mariga's only contribution to Kenyan youths was to get them addicted to gambling.

Mwangi also advised the Kibra people not to vote for Mariga, citing his involvement in promoting betting, which is currently facing challenges in Kenya.

Mariga had announced his intention to run for the Kibra Constituency seat, stating that he wanted to serve the community and emphasizing that he was not anyone's project.
