On September 3, 2019, a devastating accident occurred along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway, claiming the lives of six people, including poet Dan Nyacharo.
Nyacharo, who was in charge of Communications at Project 82 KE and a social media strategist, was among those who lost their lives in the accident that happened at Nyakairu centre, 15 kilometres from Naivasha town.
The accident occurred when a truck heading to Naivasha collided head-on with a matatu coming from Nairobi, killing five people instantly. The sixth victim died while undergoing treatment at Naivasha sub-county hospital.
The driver of the lorry was among those who died on the spot, while scores of passengers in the 2NK matatu were injured.
According to James Kabono, chairman of the Naivasha Road Safety Association, the lorry driver was to blame for the accident, as he had left his lane while overtaking a fleet of vehicles and hit the incoming matatu head-on.
Days before his death, Nyacharo celebrated his life and his wife Maureen on social media, writing, 'Glad to be celebrating my birthday with someone who makes my bad days Good and my good days great! ❤.'
In another post, he wrote, 'The real power of a man is in the size of the smile of the woman standing next to him,' adding, 'When God decides to make you rich, He brings someone special in your life; who gives you a Billion reasons to smile.?'
He also shared a beautiful love letter to his wife Maureen, saying, 'Since I can’t send Beautiful roses here, let me send Beautiful words for a Beautiful Woman who is my Beautiful Wife and has given me a Beautiful Life…..This day reminds me that God really loves me, for He gave me the most Wonderful Person and chose her to be my Lifetime Partner. I will always be grateful!'
