On September 2, 2019, Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jnr. announced that Joe Mwangi, the former manager of gymnast Wendy Waeni, had been arrested by officers.

Wendy Waeni had previously accused Joe Mwangi of not paying her for her gymnastics and acrobatic talents, which had earned her international recognition.
Joe Mwangi had denied the allegations, claiming that they were scripted to benefit certain individuals. However, he later provided evidence that he had sent money to Wendy Waeni's mother on several occasions.
