On Sunday night, a 15-year-old girl, Diana Juma, was found dead in her family's kitchen in Kakamega. The Standard reported on September 3, 2019, that Diana was a Class Seven pupil at Nanyeni Primary School.
According to her father, Antony Juma Bunyasi, Diana had gone to sleep in the kitchen at around 10pm. However, at around 1am, Mr. Bunyasi heard commotion in the kitchen and noticed billows of smoke emanating from the roof.
He found his daughter lying on the ground lifeless, with a piece of cloth around her neck and blood oozing from her ears and nose. Her innerwear had blood stains, suggesting she may have been raped before being murdered.
Police took the body to Bungoma County Referral Hospital mortuary for an autopsy. The incident has sparked fear among pupils at Nanyeni Primary School, with the head teacher, Andrew Werimo, advising parents to be cautious with their children.
