On September 3, 2019, Deputy President William Ruto took to his official Twitter handle to deny reports of a drama with President Uhuru Kenyatta at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
The reports, published by The Standard, claimed that Kenyatta was unhappy with one of Ruto's allies, Nandi Governor Stephen Sang, who accompanied Ruto to receive him at JKIA after a trip to Japan.
According to The Standard, Kenyatta had adopted a policy where he would not be seen in public with individuals charged with any crime. Governor Sang was charged with incitement to violence, abuse of office, and malicious damage to property, but was later freed on Sh1 million cash bail.
Reacting to the reports, Ruto said, "Kenyans can see through Standard Media's desperate gutter journalism lies of drama." He added, "Jubilee is built on rock-solid philosophy and beliefs that no amount of scheming and propaganda can undermine."
