On September 2, 2019, a disturbing discovery was made in Chepngaina sub-location of Bomet Central, where the body of a one-month-old baby was found on the banks of Nyangores River.
According to Assistant Chief Richard Kirui, the baby's body still had a rope around its neck when it was discovered by residents at Chebungee village.
Condemning the incident, Kirui cautioned teenagers against early pregnancy, suggesting that the act may have been committed by a teenager trying to avoid responsibility after falling pregnant.
“This must be the act of a teenager trying to avoid the responsibility of motherhood after falling pregnant,” the assistant chief said.
Despite the suspect not being known, investigations were launched, with Kirui urging everyone to help in tracing the suspect.
“Everyone should help us in tracing the suspect," he said.
Bomet Central Sub County police commander Musa Omari confirmed that the body was taken to Longisa morgue and asked the public to volunteer information that will lead to the arrest of suspects.
Cases of infants killed and dumped at birth have increased in the county, with the county government regularly burying dozens of infants born and dumped at Bomet cemetery.
