McDonald Mariga, a former Kenyan international footballer, has been selected as the Jubilee Party candidate for the Kibra parliamentary by-election, scheduled for November 7, 2019.

Mariga emerged as the party's preferred candidate after scoring 500 out of 600 marks in the interview, which was conducted by a panel of six members on Monday.

The panel evaluated the aspirants on their knowledge of party policies, ability to finance campaigns, understanding of parliamentary work, and vision for Kibra.

Mariga was escorted to the Jubilee headquarters for the vetting by a host of supporters who sang and danced in celebration.

The Kibra parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of Ken Okoth on July 26, 2019.
