On September 2, 2019, Dr. Pimple Popper, a dermatologist and TLC host, shared a video on Instagram showing an incision and drainage procedure on an ear abscess.
A skin abscess is essentially an inflamed cyst, a rotten sack of infected goo that the body is trying to eject. In this procedure, Dr. Lee predicts the soft mass inside the cyst will be wet and may spray upon cutting it.
However, upon cutting the cyst with a scalpel, Dr. Lee releases a gush of pink and purple jelly-like gunk. It takes her a few pushes to drain out all the fluid from the numbed patient.
"I can see that it was a cyst because it's sometimes when it gets enflamed, the contents break down," says Dr. Lee, as the fluid juts out. "That's like your body already tried to get rid of it."
