Published on September 2, 2019, a senior government official revealed that British Prime Minister Boris Johnson would seek a general election on October 14 if his Brexit strategy is defeated in a parliamentary vote.

According to the official, if rebel MPs from Johnson's Conservative party join the opposition to reject his plan, the government would immediately table a vote for a general election on Wednesday.
