On September 2, 2019, the University of Nairobi played host to the first-ever Chinese film week, an event that marked a significant milestone in Kenya's film industry.

Speaking at the launch, Information Communication and Technology Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru emphasized the government's commitment to promoting the sector, which he believes has a huge potential to provide jobs for thousands of Kenyan youth and generate substantial revenue.

According to Mucheru, the Chinese film industry presents a welcome opportunity for Kenya and China to boost trade, commerce, and tourism, as well as promote art and culture.

He added that the government has put in place the requisite infrastructure to enable foreign filmmakers to shoot their films in the country.

The one-week festival featured a lineup of Chinese films, including Dreams in China, The Founding of a Republic, and Once Upon a Time in China.
