Published on September 2, 2019, the Harambee Starlets are set to face the winner of the Ghana-Gabon tie in the third round of the Olympic qualifier.
The winner of the Ghana-Gabon tie will face the Starlets in a two-leg contest, with the winner proceeding to the next year's Olympic Games.
Ghana has an upper hand after thrashing Gabon 3-0 in the first leg played in Gabon last Wednesday.
On their part, the Starlets reached the third round after having a bye in the first round and dispatching Malawi 5-3 on aggregate.
Starlets' captain Sikobe Dorcas attributed the team's success to their hard work and dedication, saying, “The current team is real, fighting hard compared to the previous team who were not playing their hearts out and it’s obvious when players work hard results get positive.”
Head coach David Ouma credited the federation for helping the technical bench scout for 'the best' talents across the country, saying, “This is a young team and we will keep on scouting for the best, and every player has to fight for her position.”
Striker Adam Mwanalima, who scored a brace, downplayed her goal-scoring feat, saying, “I feel good scoring but it’s not that special since it’s my duty as a striker to score goals. I thank everyone including my teammates and those fans that supported us despite them not being allowed to come and watch us play, I believe we will do more in the next round.”
