Published on September 2, 2019, Nairobi News reported that Victor Wanyama's deal to join Club Brugge was on the verge of collapse due to a pay cut dispute.

Brugge coach Phillipe Clement had asked Wanyama to make up his mind about joining the club, hinting that they had other options in case he turned down the offer.

“Wanyama is a boy whose qualities we know well and the mentality. But we do not put all our eggs in one basket. For the rest, we remain alert in the transfer market,” Clement said.

With Wanyama out of the picture, Club Brugge quickly signed Colombian player Eder Balanta, who completed his transfer from Basel on the last day of the European transfer window.

Balanta, who previously played for River Plate, will wear the number 3 jersey at Brugge.
