On September 2, 2019, a Nairobi court granted police permission to detain Zachary Mwangi Kariuki, a man accused of defrauding the public millions of shillings.

According to reports, Kariuki had been evading arrest despite having eight warrants of arrest issued against him and being linked to nearly 20 fraud cases in different courts.

He was eventually arrested in Limuru on Friday by flying squad detectives following a warrant of arrest issued at Kibra law courts in Nairobi.

Police claim that through his firm, Imperial World Ventures, Kariuki allegedly lured victims into investing their money, promising them a 10% monthly interest and the option to withdraw their savings after six months.

The investigating officer informed the court that Kariuki owns homes in Nairobi, Nakuru, Limuru, and Laikipia West, which will be the focus of further investigations.

Nairobi Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoyi directed that Kariuki be detained at Pangani Police Station for 14 days, with the case set to be mentioned on September 16, 2019.
