On July 7, 2017, a heinous crime shook the quiet streets of Uasin Gishu County, Kenya. Benjamin Kiprop Kiplagat, a 26-year-old man, broke into the home of an 80-year-old woman, threatening her with a knife before committing the unimaginable act of rape.
According to court records, Kiplagat also stole a mobile phone and Ksh.25,000 from the elderly woman. The incident was a devastating blow to the community, and the perpetrator's actions would soon face justice.
On [published_at], a Kenyan court delivered a verdict that would bring closure to the victim and her loved ones. Eldoret Senior Principal Magistrate Richard Odenyo ruled that the court was satisfied with the evidence against Kiplagat, finding him guilty of robbery and rape.
The magistrate handed down a 35-year prison sentence, with 20 years for robbery and 15 years for rape. This harsh punishment serves as a reminder that such heinous crimes will not be tolerated in our society.
