On September 1, 2019, Thunder and Equity Bank women's teams solidified their positions at the top of the Kenya Basketball Federation Premier League tables.

Thunder secured a double win over World Hope and Emyba, with Ancette Wafula scoring a game-high 23 points and Kevin Chogo adding 22 points to their tally. This victory saw Thunder establish a five-point cushion between them and second-placed Ulinzi.

Ulinzi, who had taken a break from the league to participate in the East Africa Military Games, are left with six matches to end the regular season. Thunder coach Sadat Gaya expressed confidence in his team's ability to win their remaining three matches and boost their chances of finishing the regular season in first position.

Equity Bank women's team, on the other hand, remained top with victories over University of Nairobi's Dynamites and Storms. The bankers, led by guard Betty Kananu, who scored 36 points in both matches, increased their tally to 35 points.

Other notable results from the weekend include Strathmore University Swords' 60-48 win over Tangit Sparks, which kept them in third spot with 31 points. Dynamites remained seventh with 22 points, but face a tall order to win their remaining five matches and qualify for the play-offs.
