Kenya National Union of Teachers' (KNUT) Secretary General Wilson Sossion can now breathe a sigh of relief after the Labour Court reinstated him on September 2, 2019.
The court's decision came after Sossion was ousted by the union's top organ on August 30, 2019, following allegations of being hardheaded.
Labour Court Judge Helen Wasilwa ruled that Sossion remained the union's leader, granting him access to bank accounts and his office.
Before the unionists's ouster, part of NEC members stormed KNUT headquarters in Nairobi on August 29, 2019, where they tried to gain forced entry but were repulsed by police.
The members wanted to hold a meeting that would seal Sossion's fate at the helm of the union. However, Sossion had sought court orders that prevented the meeting from being convened.
As earlier reported, Sossion had tried to reach out to ODM leader Raila Odinga to help in resolving the surging wrangles in KNUT.
Friction between him and teacher employer TSC saw him deregistered as a teacher, and the commission has also not made KNUT deductions from teacher's salaries for the past three months, denying the union funds.
