Sharon Otieno's Family Still Mourns Her Gruesome Death a Year Later ¶
September 2, 2019
For the family of the late Rongo University student Sharon Otieno, the memories of her gruesome death still haunt them a year later. Sharon, who was seven months pregnant, was stabbed eight times and her unborn child was killed in a single knife stab through her abdomen.
Sharon's parents, Mr Douglas Otieno and his wife Melida Auma, are still trying to come to terms with her demise. They have not forgiven her killers, including Migori Governor Okoth Obado, who was charged with her murder and spent several weeks in prison before being released on a Sh5 million bail.
The case is still ongoing, and Sharon's family says they still fear for their lives as her killers are still roaming free. They also say it is even harder for them when they attend court as they feel insecure.
Sharon's mother, Ms Auma, has forgiven her daughter's killers for the sake of her inner peace but says they must be brought to book for justice to prevail. She adds that court sessions and media reports constantly remind them of their daughter, making healing difficult.
Sharon's father, Mr Otieno, visits her grave daily and says he gets satisfaction in just knowing his daughter is sleeping down there peacefully. He also says that parents should never bury their children.
Sharon's family is now preparing for her anniversary, to be held on September 4, exactly a year after her body was found dumped in a thicket in Oyugis, Homa Bay county. They welcome everyone, including those responsible for her death, to the event.
