On September 2, 2019, detectives arrested Zachary Mwangi Kariuki, a suspected fraudster, who had been absent from court for five months.
He appeared before Kibera Senior Resident Magistrate Faith Mutuku, who had issued a warrant for his arrest.
Mr. Kariuki is accused of obtaining Sh1.9 million from Pankaj Patel, the director of Kenson and Company Limited, by pretending to sell him a car in 2012.
He claimed to have been hospitalized in Limuru since April, but the court was not convinced.
Ms. Mutuku issued a warrant for his arrest in April when he failed to attend court, and he was remanded until September 18 to provide evidence of his hospitalization.
During the court session, Mr. Kariuki told the court that he was a hypertensive patient and a depressed man, but the magistrate cut him short, asking him to relax before responding to questions.
