On September 2, 2019, the Employment and Labour Relations Court directed that Wilson Sossion be reinstated as Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General, pending hearing and determination of a case in which he opposed his removal from office.
The court also allowed Sossion to access KNUT bank accounts.
According to the judgement, the court ordered that the status quo of the KNUT register of officials obtaining prior to August 29, 2019, be maintained with regard to the operations of the KNUT Bank Accounts at Kenya Commercial Bank, Equity Bank, and Standard Chartered Bank pending further orders of the Court.
Wilson Sossion was removed from office in a notice from the Registrar of Trade Unions last week.
Through his lawyer, Judith Guserwa, Sossion told the court that Knut’s NEC illegally convened a meeting and purported to remove him despite a court order being issued last week stopping the meeting or his removal.
