On September 2, 2019, Arsenal midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan finalized a season-long loan deal with Roma, marking the end of his two-year tenure at the Emirates Stadium.
According to the agreement, Roma will cover Mkhitaryan's wages and pay a loan fee, but there is no obligation to purchase the 30-year-old Armenia international.
Mkhitaryan joined Arsenal from Manchester United in January 2018 in a swap deal involving Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez.
During his time at Arsenal, Mkhitaryan scored nine goals in 59 appearances, including a substitute appearance in the 2-2 north London derby draw with Tottenham on Sunday.
With his playing time at Emirates Stadium likely to be limited this season, Arsenal boss Unai Emery plans to use Mkhitaryan's departure as an opportunity to give more minutes to young players.
Meanwhile, Arsenal remains open to letting defender Shkodran Mustafi go before the transfer deadline, but it appears unlikely the 27-year-old German will leave the club.
