On September 2, 2019, bad weather disrupted flights at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, forcing several planes to be diverted to Mombasa.

A Kenya Airways flight from Kisumu, which departed at 7:35 am, was among those affected, landing safely at Moi International Airport in Mombasa.

Passenger Nelson Osiemo tweeted about the experience, saying, "We have landed in Mombasa. Told there’s heavy fog over JKIA so we couldn’t land. We are told to wait for 30 minutes here for the fog to clear and then resume our trip."

According to sources at Kenya Airways, the flights were diverted as a safety measure due to the bad weather, which also caused fog to engulf parts of Nairobi, including Wilson Airport.

At Wilson Airport, take-off was restricted, and planes were seen parked as managers waited for the fog to clear.
