On Sunday, Serena Williams secured a spot in the U.S. Open quarter-finals with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Petra Martic, despite a medical time out in the second set to treat her right ankle.

Williams, the 37-year-old American eighth seed, fell to the court at 2-2 in the second set after hitting a volley that sailed long. She received treatment on her ankle during the changeover and appeared to be fine, going on to smite 38 winners on a sunny day at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Williams sealed the match with her fourth ace on match point, advancing to face Wang Qiang of China in the quarter-finals for the first time.
