Published on September 2, 2019, Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) officials have reaffirmed their decision to suspend Secretary-General Wilson Sossion.
On Sunday, Secretary-General Hesbon Otieno stated that the union will not reverse its decision, emphasizing that they are focused on addressing teachers' issues.
"The National Executive Council (NEC) has pronounced itself on the union's leadership, and we are not turning back," Otieno said.
He added that the union has written a letter to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) requesting a consultative meeting to resolve outstanding issues.
However, Sossion has insisted that he remains the union's legitimate secretary-general, threatening to sue the registrar of trade unions and the Knut leadership for contempt of court.
"The court order stopped the NEC meeting and any other meeting," Sossion asserted.
Despite the ongoing dispute, Otieno expressed confidence that the union will resolve its issues with the TSC, citing a meeting scheduled for this week to discuss teachers' salary increments, promotions, and union dues.
